About
Barbershop enthusiasts from Arizona and points elsewhere will be gathering August 19-21 at the Embassy Suites in Tempe for the Arizona Division Summer Bash hosted by the Phoenicians. Friday evening features a parade of quartets, and Saturday events will include a tag singing class taught by Cary Burns, Pool Party, Novice & Comedy Quartets, "Luck of the Draw" Quartets, Very Large Quartets (VLQs), special guests and MORE!
EVERYONE IS WELCOME… the only "requirement" is the desire to sing or listen to BARBERSHOP HARMONY!
Registration is $25.00… All events open seating.
Book your hotel room AND register for the Bash by Tuesday, July 26 and you will be entered into a drawing for a complimentary upgrade to a Balcony Suite! Just select "Yes" to "Staying in Hotel?" when you purchase your event tickets to register for the drawing; one entry per ticket purchased.
All events are open to men's, women's & mixed quartets and VLQs.
Quartets wishing to appear on the Friday Parade and VLQs wishing to sing on Saturday should register in advance. See details below.

Friday Parade of Quartets
The Bash will kick off with a Parade of Quartets. Men's, women's and mixed quartets are welcome to take the stage and perform live before an enthusiastic crowd.
If your quartet would like to sing on the Friday evening show, please contact Adam Kaufman to get your group on the list.
Tag Singing with Cary Burns
Cary Burns is a coach, arranger and 34-year BHS member. He is the director of senior chorus Desert Aires and a cappella chorus Wicked Pitch of the West. Cary has serverd on the Harmony University faculty and has also been a Music Judge since 2010.
Join Cary for a Saturday afternoon session on the fine art of singing tags and ringing chords.
Novice & Comedy Quartets
While any quartet is welcome to participate on the Saturday event, we are especially encouraging Novice and Comedy quartets to perform before an enthusiastic crowd. By definition, a novice quartet may have no more than two members who have competed in a District/Region contest. Also by definition, a comedy quartet is one who keeps the audience laughing either by singing funny songs or by being funny while singing songs.
Each quartet will sing one song.
There will be sign-up sheets at the registration desk from Friday evening until 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
Luck of the Draw Quartets
Like the name implies, a "Luck of the Draw" quartet is comprised of four singers whose names will be drawn out of four vintage mayonaise jars that we found sitting on Funk and Wagnall's back porch.
The lucky foursomes will be assembled and posted on the board at registration shortly after sign-up for this event closes at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
Between then and the show each foursome will have a short time to get together to decide what song they all know, run through it a couple of times, and if things sound pretty good and time permits they can run out and get matching socks or flip-flops before show time!
Each quartet will sing one song.
This event is open to everyone who wants to sing. Everyone who signs up will have an opportunity to sing in at least one quartet.
Very Large Quartets (VLQs)
Filling the gap between the quartet and the chorus is what is known as a VLQ or Very Large Quartet, in which more than four singers perform together, with two or more voices on some or all of the four parts.
Men's, women's and mixed VLQs of 5-12 singers are welcome to participate. Each group will sing one barbershop song of their choice.

Social Wristbands
YOU CHOOSE YOUR OWN COMFORT LEVEL!
We are switching from name badges to wristbands. Most of you already have name badges for your chorus or quartet, so we encourage you to use those instead. Also, name badges are easy to lose or forget at home or in your hotel room; the wristband stays with you until you choose to take it off.
Another nice feature of wristbands is that they come in a variety of colors. As people start to come together again in group environments, they will have a wide range of comfort levels with physical proximity and contact and may find it awkward to let others know their — or try to read others’ — greeting preferences. So we are offering several colors for you to chose when you check in and exchange your eTicket for a wristband at the registration desk.
